Being active on social media is a great way to increase your visibility and reach potential customers. But it’s easy to make mistakes that will cost you time, money, and followers.

Here are seven of the most common mistakes we see people making on social media, so you can avoid them and take control of your online presence.

#1. Not having an optimized profile

Your profile should accurately reflect who you are and what you do. It should be well-written, professional, up-to-date, and have a clear call to action. Additionally, if this is a business page, ensure that every aspect of your profile is accurately represented (i.e., company name, logo, website URL).

#2. Posting too much or too little

Posting regularly helps keep your audience engaged but overdoing it can be overwhelming for followers and can lead to unfollows or loss of interest in what you have to say. However, not posting enough can also lead to a lack of engagement as people forget about your page because they don’t hear from you often enough. Aim for finding the right balance between providing value without bombarding people with content they don’t want or need.

#3. Not using visuals

Visuals are key when it comes to grabbing attention on social media platforms like Instagram and Pinterest where visuals are the primary form of communication between brands and consumers. Images draw attention more quickly than text alone so make sure you're utilizing photos, videos, GIFs etc in order to maximize engagement with potential customers!

#4. Not engaging with followers

Engagement is critical when it comes to building relationships with potential customers on social media platforms. If someone comments on one of your posts or messages you directly don't ignore them!

Responding in a timely manner shows that you care about their opinion/feedback which goes a long way in helping build loyalty amongst your customer base. Bonus - start a genuine conversation with someone today!

#5. Automating everything

Automation can be helpful in terms of scheduling posts but relying solely on automated responses (i.e., automated messages for direct messages such as ManyChat) is not ideal as your only strategy. As it does not allow for an authentic connection between yourself and potential customers which is integral when building trust and loyalty amongst consumers.

#6. Poor content quality

Content quality matters! If what you're sharing isn't relevant or interesting chances are no one will pay attention which means less or no engagement (comments/likes/shares) which defeats the purpose of being active on social media platforms in the first place. Not to mention, it can be extremely frustrating when the results aren't exactly what's desired. Ensure that all content that is shared is valuable/interesting before hitting the post button!

#7. Not measuring results

Lastly, remember that every post should be measurable! Track analytics such as likes, comments, shares etc so that you can have an accurate understanding of how effective each post was in terms of engagement. This allows for greater insight into what works best for your brand so that future content aligns with these insights!

As we've seen there are many mistakes one can make when utilizing social media platforms.

Taking the time to ensure that each post is optimized, has high-quality content, provides value, encourages engagement etc will help maximize the impact each post has while avoiding those pesky pitfalls mentioned above!

Doing so will help create connections between yourself & potential customers while also increasing visibility & boosting sales!

Happy posting!
